Climate Histories Workshop: Re-enchantment, Complexity and Politics in the Anthropocene

An interdisciplinary workshop bringing together anthropology, sociology, geography in conversation over the role of enchantment in the present moment. At a time of environmental crisis and political instability, an increasing degree of critical scholarship has been trained on the conceptual triptych of enchantment, disenchantment, and re-enchantment. To what extent do these themes intersect with political and moral realities we face today? How do contemporary spiritual movements harness enchantment and re-enchantment as techniques of empowerment? How might vitalistic thinking help us navigate the complexities and concerns of contemporary societies?
