Anthropological perspectives on flying saucer reports
Studying reports of flying saucers in societies we call ‘home’ – the USA, Europe – presents certain recognizable anthropological problems: the complexity of the object at issue, for one, and the inadequacy of any form of representation – whether naturalistic, mythological or other – to grasp what is going on, for another. In order to begin to reply to these problems, I attempt to characterize the specific nature of the reports and of the conditions under which they are produced.
