There are two dissertation submission deadlines: the Division of Easter Term, and the last Friday in August, although dissertations may also be submitted between these two dates. In each case, theses must be received by noon of the deadline day. Dissertations submitted after the noon deadline will be penalised by 5 points for the first day, plus 1 point for each day of delay thereafter.

All candidates are required to submit the following by 12:00 BST on the deadline published in the MPhil Diary:
- Two bound copies of the dissertation to the Social Anthropology Administration Office.
- An electronic version of the dissertation (.doc .docx or .pdf format only) via the Assignments tool on the MPhil Moodle Course.
For students who have left Cambridge and are unable to submit their dissertation in person there are two options:
- Submission by a third party
- Submission via courier
In each case a completed Certificate of Dissertation submission (pdf) must be uploaded along with the dissertation.
Submission by a third party
- If a friend or classmate will be submitting on your behalf, it is still your responsibility to ensure that the dissertation is submitted by the deadline
- We recommend that you allow at least 48 hours for printing and binding of your dissertation

Submission via courier
- If you send your dissertation via courier, please send details of the delivery (courier company, estimated date of delivery, tracking number) to the email address above as soon as it has been dispatched.

- NB. The Division is open from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, you should NOT arrange a Pre-9am or weekend delivery. Royal Mail pre-1pm delivery is acceptable.
No extensions will be given to the deadlines, with exceptions being made only for certified medical emergencies. Dissertations submitted after the noon deadline will be penalised by 5 points for the first day, followed by 1 mark for each day of delay thereafter. If you experience personal or other difficulties that interfere with your work, you should consult your supervisor and/or College Tutor in good time for advice and assistance.
In exceptional circumstances, a case for late submission may be made through these authorities by using form MP16. The completed form must reach the Graduate Administrator well before the assignment deadline. In extreme cases personal problems may require periods of intermission of studies.
Oral exams for MPhil dissertations are required only if a student is in danger of failing; however we also reserve the right to call you for one if we wish to decide about a borderline between a pass and a high pass. If needed this would take place in mid-to-late September.
Further information about this process is given on the Student Registry website. Once your marks have been approved by the Faculty Degree Committee, your College will be your primary contact regarding graduation arrangements.
Depending on your date of dissertation submission, you will be approved for the award of the MPhil at the HSPS Degree Committee meeting at the end of September. Immediately following the Degree Committee meeting you will receive a letter from the Faculty officially confirming the award of your MPhil. This will be sent to the “mailing” address as given on your CamSIS Self-service record, therefore please make sure that this is up-to-date.
You will be able to view your detailed results via your extended self-service pages in November. In addition, the Division will aim to email an unofficial transcript to you before 8 October.
