Department of Social Anthropology

Bookshelves

The Department has some limited resources to assist students in the final year of writing up. The Henry Ling Roth Research Fund has a small number of scholarships available during the academic year.

Alongside the scholarship, there is a Ling Roth Conference Award. The Department has some limited funds to help towards the cost of PhD students attending conferences.

The Smuts Memorial Fund provides grants towards the costs of photocopying Commonwealth related archival or other material. This funding is made available on the understanding that the material is deposited in an appropriate Cambridge Library when the user has completed his/her research. Further information about the Smuts Fund can be had from the Administrator to the Managers of the Smuts Memorial Fund, 4 Mill Lane, Cambridge, CB2 1RZ.

External Funding

Cambridge PhD students in the last six months of writing up are also eligible to apply for the Radcliffe-Brown and Firth Trust Funds. The closing dates for applications are 30 April and 30 November every year.
