Dr Brenda Herbert (Postdoctoral Fellow, British Academy), “The Reluctant Ethnographer: Using multimodal ethnography to decolonise the figure of the child”

 

Dr Brenda Herbert is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow of the British Academy, having recently been the Sociological Review Fellow for 2024–25. Dr Herbert will discuss her findings from an 18-month multimodal ethnography based in an inner-London borough, which focuses on children’s experience of domestic abuse and engages with the works of Black feminist, decolonial and Indigenous scholars to reimagine how these children are supported and understood.
