Since 2013, we have run an annual competition for postgraduate students to showcase their fieldwork photographs.
Each student submits three captioned photographs, along with a short narrative of their fieldwork.
Judging is based on the quality and content of photographs. Special consideration is given to images which convey a strong sense of human life and experience in the setting depicted.

2025 Competition
This year, the submissions reflected a striking range of ethnographic subjects and visual approaches – from spirit beliefs and altered states to oyster farming and funeral practices.
