The Richards Fund provides studentships or grants to assist with fieldwork for graduate students registered for a course of field research in the Department of Social Anthropology. The Department interprets this to be for PhD students (whether their first year of training was pre-field training or the MRes) embarking on field research in their second year of study.
Funding awarded is at the discretion of the Trustees.
How to Apply
1) The applicant should contact the Richards Fund Administrator to request the Richards Fund Application Form by e-mailing postgraduate@socanth.cam.ac.uk allowing plenty of time to receive and complete the application form ahead of the deadline. Email your completed application form to the Richards Fund Administrator c/o postgraduate@socanth.cam.ac.uk prior to the deadline: 11 March.
2) Additionally, please arrange for your supervisor and one other anthropologist (possibly your current advisor) each to email the Richards Fund Administrator by the same closing date (as above) a brief message stating that they support your application.
3) Application details are then passed to the Head of Department for discussion at the next Trustees Committee Meeting.
4) Notification of award funding is made to the Fund Administrator responsible for administering this fund.
5) Applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome.
Please note, the Richards Fund has limited has limited resources available and awards are usually in the region of £500 to £2,500.
