Calais Refugee Camp: Welcome to the Jungle

Followed by Q&A with the filmmakers Teun Voeten and Maaike Engels

The recent eviction and demolition of the Calais Refugee Camp has just begun. It has been a period of tension, struggle, racism and crises around the world. CUSAS has been lucky enough to secure a documentary of the Calais Refugee Camp, with one of the directors joining us to answer questions.

In their words,"...our documentary isn't just another one-sided story on the refugees' plight, but rather shows the complexity of a situation in which virtually all views are two-sided. We are equally critical of the authorities as of some of the aid workers and refugees themselves. In short, it shows the good the bad and the ugly, the tragic, absurd and sometimes hilarious, without the makers taking position."

The Documentary has already premiered at the Beeld voor Beeld Anthropological Film Festival in Amsterdam and has been screened at the Balie Cultural Center in Amsterdam and at Leiden University. Both evenings were sold out and resulted in very animated and heated discussions.

CUSAS welcomes everyone to join and have your questions answered by one of the directors themselves.
