Dr Baktygul Tulebaeva: Visiting Academic to the Department of Social Anthropology

The Department is pleased to announce the arrival of Dr Baktygul Tulebaeva, a social anthropologist at the Goethe University Frankfurt, who is visiting until early December. Her recent post-doctoral project is on Sufism in India where she investigates Sufi shrines, transnational Sufism and the role of new media in Sufi practices. Her previous project dealt with childhood and values related to children’s upbringing in Kyrgyzstan.

“I am convinced that the University of Cambridge is the right place to develop academically. The rich library, weekly seminars, invited talks, student-organized events and other departmental events – I am impressed how students and researchers are given such a great opportunity to learn and at the same time to share,” said Dr Tulebaeva.

Dr Tulebaeva’s reason for visiting Cambridge, the Department of Social Anthropology, is to produce academic works, discuss her research and papers with the department members and, as she has put it, “to learn and to share”.

Dr Tulebaeva is the latest visitor to the Department, joining Dr Wang Yuan, Dr Daniel White, and Dr Karolina Rogalska.
