Lauren will talk about how to utilise your anthropology degree to pursue a career in public service, drawing on her experience of working in central Government and for the Mayor of London on major domestic policy issues (building safety, local growth, public health, prison reform). Lauren will talk about routes into central and local Government and how to utilise your anthropology degree/way of seeing to access these roles and offer new insights.
Lauren Stephenson is a Senior Manager in the Greater London Authority working on building safety, particularly the remediation of unsafely cladded buildings in London following the Grenfell tragedy. She was previously a civil servant where she joined on the Fast Stream in 2015 and worked in roles in a number of central Government Departments including the Department of Health, Department of Energy and Climate Change, HM Courts and Tribunals Service, Ministry of Justice and most recently the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government where her final role was as Head of Communities Strategy. Lauren studied the MPhil in Social Anthropology in 2019-2020 during a career break.
