How can medical anthropology, with its long tradition of studying pathologies and suffering, help us to (re)consider health and wellbeing? The CUSAS Health and Wellbeing Discussion Group proposes a reimagining of medical anthropology, in which wellbeing, not merely illbeing, becomes a primary focus of inquiry. Bridging medical anthropological debates with the Cambridge tradition of exploring the ‘anthropology of the good’ (Robbins 2013) and ‘the process of wellbeing’ (Kavedžija 2021), this group will facilitate discussions on anthropological perspectives, methods, and visions of health and wellbeing.

Lent Term 2024 will consist of three sessions on ‘Health and Wellbeing: (Re)thinking with anthropologists’. Each session will begin with a 30-40 min interview with a Cambridge anthropologist, followed by Q & A and wider discussion.
