Biography:

Dr Ćwiek-Rogalska is a culturologist and anthropologist, specializing in post-expulsion regions of Central-Eastern Europe (Poland and the Czech Republic). She works as an assistant professor at the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw and visits the Department of Social Anthropology thanks to The Bekker Programme Scholarship of The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. She is the author of the book called Zapamiętane w krajobrazie. Krajobraz czesko-niemieckiego pogranicza w czasach przemian [Remembered in landscape. Cultural landscape of Czech-German Borderlands in the times of change] (Warsaw, 2017). She conducts fieldwork research in Czech-German Borderlands and in Polish Pomerania. She is currently conducting research on the spectral presence of former inhabitants in the region of Polish Central Pomerania and its impact on forming the identity of the new settlers in the region after 1945.

Research Interests

Anthropology of landscape, memory studies, memory issues concerning commemorations, expulsions and settlement in the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland, studies of material culture, hauntology, World War I.
