Dr Patrick O'Hare

Postdoctoral Affiliate

Biography:

Patrick completed his ESRC funded PhD in social anthropology at the University of Cambridge in October 2017. His thesis focused on waste-picking and the recycling economy in Montevideo, Uruguay, and argued that waste in the city can be considered a commons, over which the poor hold customary rights of access, use, and exchange. From October 2017 to July 2018 he worked as a post-doctoral researcher on the AHRC funded project 'Precarious Publishing in Latin America: Relations, Meaning, and Community in Movement', for which he conducted fieldwork with the 'cardboard publishing' movement in Mexico. He is due to begin an ESRC post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Manchester in October 2018. His research interests include waste, infrastructure, labour, and the city.
